TestimonialsThe best painter in Austin!
I’ve known and worked with David for over 20 years. Typically it's near impossible for carpenters and painters to get along and work together because we stir up so much dust. David's attention to detail and to customer care makes him second to none.

It took me almost 6 months to make up my mind and to pick out all of my colors. David was completely unfazed, and remained patient the entire time. He also matched the colors from a boutique hotel that we used for my ‘great’ room.

David is very intuitive, almost like he can read my mind. Just like it says on his business card (he) ‘ALWAYS (has) a Good Idea’

When redecorating the master suite, I wanted a ‘caribbean blue’ that would invoke memories of our sailing vacations. After applying about 15 samples from 4 different manufacturers, I was at my wits end. Mr. Chamberlain combined a few of the quarts I’d bought and managed to come up with just the right color we’d been looking for.
A few years later I paid a decorator that my firm uses extensively to select colors for the downstairs. I liked them a bit less after David pointed out they clashed with my floors and two new pieces of furniture. I didn’t care because I planned on painting the furniture and replacing the floors . . . 8 years later and I still haven't gotten around to it.

We sold David his 1st paint sprayer back in the 70s when I worked at Sherwin Williams. In all the years I've waited on him, David has NEVER asked for the ‘cheapest’ (shit) when buying supplies, only for what would last the longest. I’ve referred him many, many times.

We barely knew David when we left him with the keys to our Lakeway home and took off on vacation for 2 weeks, expecting to return to a mostly completed interior repaint (the previous painters had taken almost 2-1/2 months to complete our home). We were pleasantly SHOCKED to find him not only finished, but that the house was cleaner than when we’d left.

David convinced me to keep my ‘ugly’ carpet, saving me hundreds of dollars, by figuring out the PERFECT color. I sold the house a year later and the room we worked on was the (new) owners FAV.

David saved the day when my son insisted on painting his room black. He used a ‘blackboard’ finish on the smallest wall and a medium dark purple, that I could live with, on the other 3 walls.

We wanted colors for our great room that encouraged the opposite of 'sit down and watch TV'. A space for productivity though relaxed and creative, kid friendly but not childish. I had seen a carpet at Home Depot that had a graphic design with a color combination that I really loved. After several friends and my husband said I was crazy and that it wouldn’t work — I took Dave to see it. Then we went to the paint store and looked at swatches.
Dave had such a great eye for matching colors and honing in on attractive combinations. He made many suggestions on how to arrange the colors, and boy did we have a lot of colors. Most people thought we were crazy for choosing so many colors for one room, but Dave understood our vision and really brought it to life. He found samples and painted patches on various walls in just the right way to get a feel for what the space would be like without having to invest very much in samples.
I especially appreciated how the process felt co-creative; Dave had many great ideas but was also very open to adapting to our own ideas of how it could work, and this sometimes led to completely new ideas that really brought the vision together. It is a special gift to be able to work with people to create an environment.

I first met Dave while I was working at the old S. Austin paint store Central Texas Decorating (later name-changed to Capitol City Paint). We immediately struck up a friendship as we both realized a kindred spirit based on good service and trustworthiness. And from our conversations I recognized that he knew what he was talking about concerning color and painting — unlike most of the half-drunk bullshit artists wandering through the store.
Dave is one of the smartest, funniest, and most creative guys that I’ve ever met ! He designed the dog-ugliest cabinets I’ve ever built, from recycled components, and then gave it a great paint job that made it all work. If you need someone to help you out with your color decisions for your next home painting project I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I’ve been telling David forever that he could make his living doing only color consultations. Before remodeling (and meeting David) I broke down and hired one of my (very wealthy) girlfriend's decorators to select my new interior wall color. It was a great color; complex, rich, sophisticated . . . the trouble was, it wasn’t ME. It was (the consultation) overpriced, done in a hurry, and throughout I felt talked down to. Plus it clashed with and made the fireplace treatment look stale. From now on David gets all of my color selection work.
